Discharge
CAUTION: The battery contains high pressure nitrogen gas even after the brake fluid pressure has been released. Do not puncture the battery or allow it to become hot. Don't try to take it apart. Failure to follow safety precautions may result in the battery exploding.
1. After removal, secure the throat of the battery in a vise; the outlet plug must be exactly at the top.
2. Wear safety goggles or other face and eye protection. The escaping gas, while not toxic, can carry dust and other particulate matter with it.
3. Slowly unscrew the plug 3 and a half turns; wait 3 minutes until all gas is released.
Nitrogen is an inert, non-flammable, non-toxic gas. There is no danger in its release into the atmosphere.
4. Slowly unscrew the plug completely.
