CAUTION: On vehicles equipped with the SRS (air bag) system, air bag components and wiring may be in the same area as the front speed sensor harness. Air bag connectors are yellow. Do not use electrical test equipment to check these circuits. Do not damage the air bag wiring when working with other wiring and components. Failure to take precautions may result in sudden inflation of the air bag or complete loss of system functionality.

1. Raise and securely support the vehicle as necessary to provide access.

2. Make sure the ignition is off.

3. Disconnect the sensor harness connector.

4. Starting at the detachable end of the harness, remove any sealing rings, clips, or retainers as needed to release the harness. Note the harness location; during assembly it must be installed exactly in its place.

5. Remove the speed sensor mounting bolts; remove the sensor. If it is stuck in place, tap it from the mounting flange side with a hammer and a small punch. Do not touch the sensor.

To install:

6. Put the sensor back in place; loosely install the mounting bolts. Route the harness accurately. Avoid twisting; use the white line on the wires as a guide.

7. Once the harness and sensor are securely but loosely installed, tighten the sensor mounting bolts. On the Accord, the front and rear sensor bolts should be tightened to 22 Nm. On the Prelude, the front sensor bolts should be tightened to 22 Nm, the rear ones only to 10 Nm.

8. Working away from the sensor, install any clamps, fasteners, clips, or sealing rings securing the sensor harness. The harness should not be twisted anywhere. Tighten any securing bolts to 10 Nm. If the harness must pass through a body panel, ensure that the rubber sealing rings are tightly installed.

9. Connect the connector.
