WARNING: on vehicles equipped with SRS (air cushion), components and wires of this system may be located in the same area as the front speed sensor harnesses. The connectors of the air bag system are yellow. Do not use electrical test equipment to test these circuits. Do not damage the wires of the air bag system while working on other wires and components. Failure to follow the precautions may result in the sudden inflation of the air bag or the complete loss of system functionality.
1. Raise and secure the vehicle as far as necessary to gain access.
2. Make sure the ignition is off.
3. Disconnect the sensor harness connector.
4. Starting at the split end of the harness, remove the o-rings, clips, or retainers if necessary to release the harness. Note the location of the harness; during assembly, it must be installed exactly in its place.
5. Remove the speed sensor mounting bolts; remove the sensor. If it is stuck in place, tap on the side of the mounting flange with a hammer and a small punch. Do not hit the sensor.
For installation:
6. Replace the sensor; loosely install the fixing bolts. Lay the tourniquet accurately. Avoid twisting; use the white line on the wires as a guide.
7. Once the harness and sensor are firmly but loosely seated, tighten the sensor mounting bolts. On the Accord, the front and rear sensor bolts must be tightened to 22 Nm. On the Prelude, the bolts of the front sensors must be tightened to 22 Nm, the rear sensors only to 10 Nm.
8. Moving away from the sensor, install any clips, retainers, brackets, or o-rings that secure the sensor harness. The harness should not twist anywhere. Tighten any fixing bolts to 10 Nm. If the harness must pass through the body panel, make sure the rubber o-rings are tight.
9. Connect the connector.
