10. If the outer joint was removed from the axle shaft, do the following.
- A. Install a new ring.
- B. Align the marks on the axle shaft and the joint and insert the axle shaft into the joint until the gap in the spring ring joint disappears.
- B. Holding the axle shaft with the joint, tap and seat the joint in place (the retaining ring must enter the groove).
- G. Check the position of the joint on the axle shaft by placing a ruler along the joint housing (photo). The edge of the ruler should match the mark applied during disassembly.
11. Using a 50 mm wide spatula, apply the grease from the repair kit into the cover:
12. Place the cover on the outer hinge.
13. Put on the large clamp, do not secure the small clamp yet.
14. Install the crosspiece, aligning the marks made during disassembly. Install the ring into the groove
15. Place the rollers on the crosspiece pins in the place where they were previously installed so that the flanges on the rollers face outward.
16. Fill the hinge housing with grease.
17. Place the inner joint housing onto the axle shaft, holding the axle shaft with the rollers facing down.
18. To fix the covers, three types of clamps are used.
- A. To tighten a center brace clamp, insert the end of the brace into the stop, push down on the brace and bend the tabs over the ends of the brace. To secure, tap the tabs with a small hammer.
- B. To tighten a double-wrap clamp, first orient the clamp so that the clamp tab faces up and the end of the clamp band faces forward in the direction of vehicle travel (if you imagine that the axle shaft is installed on a car). Place the clamp in the groove of the cover, wrap it with 2 turns. Pull the clamp into the buckle. Tighten the clamp by hand and make a mark 12 mm from the buckle (photo). Tighten the clamp so that the mark is aligned with the near edge of the buckle and bend the clamp tape 90°. Hold the tape in this position. Secure the buckle by tapping it with a center punch, cut the clamp 10 mm from the buckle and bend it.
- B. To tighten the tongue clamp, place the clamp band over the protruding tongue and squeeze the clamp with pliers by the protruding part (or bend it with round-nose pliers so that the gap at the base of the eye becomes about 3 mm).
18. Place the cover on the hinge body and secure the cover with a large clamp. Don't put the small clamp on yet.
19. Install the edges of the covers so that the covers take their original position, using the marks made during disassembly as a guide.
20. Secure both covers with small clamps.
21. Install the axle shaft in place, replacing the snap ring. Check the reliability of the fixation of the hinge axis in the differential gear (the axle must be firmly held by the retaining ring, which must fit into the groove).
