1. It is easiest to disassemble the engine and perform all types of work on a portable stand. Before mounting the engine on the stand, it is necessary to remove the flywheel with the clutch mechanism.

2. If there is no stand, then you can disassemble the engine by securing it on a strong workbench or on the floor. When disassembling without a stand, be very careful when handling the engine.

3. If the engine is to be repaired, then first all units must be removed in order to install them later in exactly the same order as during independent major repairs. These units include:
  • Generator and brackets.
  • Emission control systems.
  • Ignition distributor, spark plugs and high-voltage wires.
  • Thermostat with housing.
  • Water pump.
  • Carburetor.
  • Intake and exhaust manifolds.
  • Oil filter.
  • Fuel pump.
  • Engine mount parts.
  • Flywheel with clutch mechanism.

Attention! When removing engine attachments, pay special attention to those parts that may be needed for engine installation or for auxiliary installation. Mark gaskets, seals, spacers, shafts, washers, nuts, etc. to restore them to their original positions.

4. If an incomplete cylinder block is to be installed, i.e. a cylinder block with the crank mechanism and piston group installed, then the cylinder head, oil pan and oil pump should also be removed. The list of parts to be removed is determined by the accepted repair option.

5. If a complete overhaul is planned, the engine must be completely disassembled and the engine parts removed in the following order:
  • Timing belt covers for camshafts.
  • Toothed belt.
  • Cylinder head cover.
  • Front and back covers.
  • Cylinder head and camshaft.
  • Oil pan.
  • Oil pump.
  • Connecting rod and piston group.
  • Crankshaft.

6. Before disassembling and performing major repair procedures, the following tools and equipment will be required:

  • Standard set of tools.
  • Small boxes or plastic bags for storing parts.
  • Staple for removing gasket residues.
  • Countersink reamer. Impact puller.
  • Micrometers.
  • Pointer indicator with mounting system.
  • Spring compressor device.
  • Device for honing cylinders.
  • Tool for cleaning piston ring grooves.
  • Electric drill.
  • Set of taps and dies.
  • Wire brushes.
  • Solvent.
