1988-91 Prelude, 1990-91 Accord
Withdrawal
1. Drain the engine oil. Turn the crankshaft and align the white groove on the crankshaft pulley with the pointer on the camshaft belt cover (align the T mark on the flywheel with the pointer on the crankcase on the Prelude).
2. Remove the valve cover and camshaft drive belt top cover.
3. Remove the power steering pump belt and alternator belt, as well as the air conditioner belt, if equipped.
4. Remove the crankshaft pulley and lower camshaft belt cover.
5. Remove tensioner, camshaft drive belt and driven pulley. Be sure to mark the direction of rotation of the camshaft drive belt if you are going to reuse it. On the 1990-91 Accord, also remove the balancer belt.
- A. For 1990-91 Accord, remove the balancer drive gear housing and balancer driven gear.
- b. Remove the oil pan, oil screen and remove the oil pump mounting bolts. Remove the oil pump assembly.
For installation:
7. Install two dowel pins and a new O-ring into the cylinder block.
8. Make sure mating surfaces are clean and dry. Evenly, with a narrow roller, apply sealant to mating surfaces.
9. Apply a suitable thread seal to the internal threads of the bolt holes to prevent oil leakage.
10. When applying sealant, wait no more than 20 minutes after parts are installed; it becomes ineffective. After final assembly, wait at least 30 minutes before adding oil to the engine, allowing time for the sealant to cure.
11. Install the oil screen and oil pan.
12. Install the balancer drive gear housing and balancer driven gear, if removed.
13. Install the drive pulley, camshaft drive belt, balancer belt and tensioners.
14. Install the crankshaft pulley.
15. Install the camshaft drive belt lower cover.
16. Adjust belt tension (to her) camshaft drive.
17. Install drive belts for the generator, power steering and air conditioning compressor; adjust their tension.
18. Install the valve cover and camshaft drive belt top cover.
19. Fill the engine with clean, fresh oil.
1984-87 Prelude, 1984-89 Accord
Withdrawal
1. Remove the camshaft drive belt.
2. On 1984-85 Accord and 1984 Prelude, remove the oil pump drive pulley. Caution: The fixing nut has a LEFT hand thread. On later models, the pulley is attached to the axle in a different way and is removed from the pump front cover.
3. Remove the bolts and nuts holding the oil pump. Remove the oil pump.
4. Clean the gasket mounting surfaces.
If the screen is lifted when removing the oil pump, follow the procedure for removing the oil pan.
5. Remove the bolts securing the pump cover to the pump housing and the cover.
6. Inspect the pump for wear and/or damage; replace parts if necessary.
7. Re-assemble the pump assembly, while tightening the bolts securing the cover to the pump housing - 6.6 Nm.
For installation:
8. To install, use new o-rings and install the pump. The tightening torque of the mounting nuts and bolts of the oil pump is 12 Nm.
9. Install the oil pump drive pulley, if removed. Note that the nut is left-handed and use a thread sealant before installing the nut. Tighten it to 30 Nm.
10. Reinstall the camshaft drive belt and adjust the tension correctly.
11. Start the engine and check for leaks.
