2. Before installing the steering mechanism, slide the rack towards the passenger.
3. Place the rubber bushing on the worm shaft.
4. Install the steering gear in the engine compartment through the hole in the frame on the passenger side. Determine the installation position of the mechanism on the bulkhead of the engine compartment. When installing the mechanism, do not bend or damage the hydraulic booster tubes and cylinders.
5. Screw in the mounting bolts of the 10 mm steering gear on the driver's side. Start them first, then tighten them securely.
6. Install the 10mm steering gear mounting bolts on the passenger side. Start them first, then tighten them securely.
7. Insert the stabilizer spring into the engine compartment through the hole in the frame on the passenger side.
Note: Do not reverse the installation direction of the stabilizer spring.
8. Tilt the stabilizer spring at an angle, which you inserted in the previous step, and turn it to feed the driver's side end of the stabilizer through the hole in the driver's side frame.
9. Lower the lower control arm and slide both ends of the stabilizer over the lower control arms.
10. Tilt the steering knuckle forward. Rotate the stabilizer spring and slide the stabilizer on top of the drive shaft. Also wind on top of the drive shaft and the stabilizer spring from the opposite side.
11. Place the right and left stabilizer holders on their respective bushings and install the fixing bolts.
Note: After installing the steering box, tighten the bolts to the correct torque when the stabilizer bears the weight of the vehicle.
12. Attach the right and left lower suspension arms to the steering knuckles (see ch. «Front and rear suspension»).
13. Attach the right and left stabilizer springs to the stabilizer link.
Note: After installing the steering gear, perform the following operation when the stabilizer spring has received the weight of the vehicle.
- Place the ball joint pin of the stabilizer link in the middle of the hinge stroke and attach it to the stabilizer spring.
- Tighten the bolts to the required torque while securing the ball joint pin with a hex wrench.
14. Connect the outlet hose securely and tighten the adjustable hose clamp.
15. Connect the supply tube and tighten the 14 mm flare nut. Attach the feed tube clamp to the steering gear. On right-hand drive vehicles: Attach the feed tube clamp to the mounting bracket.
Note: Make sure the tubes do not interfere with or interfere with other parts.
16. Connect the shift cable (only on models with CVT).
17. Center the steering rack within its travel.
18. Establish the hinge of a steering column and connect a shaft of a steering column with a worm shaft. Make sure the steering column pivot is attached as follows:
- Place the upper end of the steering column joint onto the steering column shaft (align the bolt hole with the flat part on the shaft).
- Place the lower end of the steering column pivot on the worm shaft (align the bolt hole with the groove on the shaft) and tighten the bottom bolt. Make sure the steering column lower pivot bolt is securely tightened in the groove on the worm shaft.
- Pull on the steering column pivot and make sure it is fully seated. Then insert the upper pivot bolt and tighten it.
19. Center the coiled cable by first turning it clockwise until it stops. Then turn it counterclockwise (about two and a half turns) so that the arrow on the label is pointing straight up. Install the steering wheel (see above).
20. Establish a cover of the hinge of a steering column.
21. Remove dirty grease from the ball joint taper and threads. Connect the tie rod ends to the steering knuckles. Install a 12mm nut and tighten to the correct torque.
22. Install the front wheels.
23. Fill the system with power steering fluid and bleed air from the system (see above).
24. After installation, perform the following checks.
- Start the engine, let it run at idle speed. and turn the steering wheel from lock to lock several times to warm up the fluid. Check for leaks from the steering gear (see above).
- Adjust front wheel alignment (see ch. «Front and rear suspension»).
- Check the steering wheel spoke angle. Adjust if necessary by turning the right and left tie rods.
Note: Rotate the right and left tie rods by the same number of revolutions.
