2. Start the engine, let it run at idle speed, turn the steering wheel from lock to lock several times and warm up the fluid.
3. Attach the spring balance to the steering wheel. With the engine running at idle speed and the vehicle on a clean, dry surface, pull the spring balance as shown in the illustration and take a reading as soon as the wheels begin to turn.
- If the spring balance readings do not exceed the specified value, the steering gear and pump are in order.
- If the spring balance reading exceeds the specified value, check the steering system.
