(every 4,800 km [3,000 miles] or every three months)
Unlike a conventional steering gear, a power-assisted transmission uses a fluid that needs to be replaced over time.
On 4-cylinder models, the steering pump hydraulic fluid reservoir is located on the inner panel of the left front wheel arch mudguard, i.e. in the left front corner of the engine compartment. On models equipped with a V6 engine, the reservoir has a mirror position relative to the position specified above, i.e. installed in the right front corner of the engine compartment.
To check the hydraulic fluid level, the front wheels of the vehicle must be in a straight line position. When the engine is off, as well as the hydraulic steering fluid must be cold.
The walls of the PAS tank on all models are made of translucent material, which allows you to check the liquid level without removing the cover. Make sure that the liquid level is constantly between the upper and lower marks on the walls of the tank. If necessary, the liquid is added to the reservoir through the neck of the latter using a funnel. Use only recommended grade hydraulic fluid.
If the fluid level needs to be adjusted regularly and frequently, check the steering pump, rack and pinion housing, and all PAS system hydraulic lines and their fittings for signs of leakage.
