2. Cut off the lock nut retaining tabs using a chisel. Do not allow cut off particles to enter the transfer case driven gear.
3. Secure the transfer case housing (A) in a soft jaw vice (B).
Note: To avoid damaging the transfer case housing, always secure it in a soft jawed vice or use a spacer between the vice and the transfer case.
4. Install the special tool on the coupling flange, then loosen the lock nut on the transfer case driven gear shaft.
5. Remove the lock nut (A) from the transfer case driven gear shaft, remove the conical spring washer (B), protective ring (C), O-ring (D) and connecting flange (E).
6. Remove the transfer case driven gear (A), then remove the transfer case shaft spacer sleeve (B) from the transfer case driven gear.
7. Remove the oil seal (A) and tapered roller bearing (B) from the transfer case housing (C).
