The electronic control system consists of a powertrain control unit (PCM), sensors and solenoid valves. Electronic control of gear shifting and locking provides convenience in all driving modes. The PCM receives signals from sensors, switches and other control units, processes the data and issues commands to the engine management system and the automatic transmission control system. The automatic transmission control system controls gear shifting, including when driving uphill or downhill (Grade Logic Control), clutch pressure regulation and lock-up control using data stored in the PCM memory. The PCM switches the gear shift solenoid valves and the automatic transmission clutch pressure regulation solenoid valves in the hydraulic drive and controls gear shifting in the gearbox and the torque converter lock-up clutch.
