The coolant temperature sensor is a thermistor (a resistor whose resistance value depends on temperature). As the temperature of the sensor decreases, its resistance increases and vice versa. If the sensor is faulty

as the engine warms up, it will lose power and may stall. The resistance of the sensor on a cold engine should be 5000 Ohm, on a warm one - 100-400 Ohm.

To remove the sensor, disconnect the battery from ground, drain the coolant, disconnect the connector and unscrew the sensor from the thermostat housing.
