Accord 1985-89 and Prelude 1986-89
The fast idle valve is adjusted at the factory and should not be adjusted. Check the positive crankcase ventilation pipes for kinks, disconnections, blockages, etc. Check the tightness of the throttle valves.
Idle speed is too high after engine warms up
1. Make sure the engine is well warmed up.
2. Make sure the idle speed control function is not impaired.
3. Remove the fast idle valve cover.
4. Check the valve for proper sealing - if it does not close tightly, you will be able to feel the air flow at the valve location. This is checked by placing your finger on the valve location.
5. If you hear any whistling noise, the valve is leaking in that area. Replace the fast idle valve and adjust the idle speed.
Idle speed is too low after engine warms up
1. Remove the idle speed adjustment screw.
2. Clean the idle adjustment screw and bypass passage with carburetor cleaner.
3. Adjust idle speed after cleaning.
Idle speed is low on cold engine.
Fast idle speed should be 1000-1800 rpm.
1. Remove the fast idle valve assembly from the throttle body.
2. Cool the wax part of the fast idle valve to 5-30°C with cold water.
3. Blow through the fast idle valve through Part A. Check that a strong flow of air can pass through it without much resistance.

4. If air does not pass or passes with difficulty, replace the valve and adjust the idle speed.
