Withdrawal
1. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery.
Attention! If the stereo system installed in the car is equipped with a security code, before disconnecting the battery, make sure that you have the correct combination to activate the audio system!
2. Having previously marked, disconnect the electrical wiring and ground bus from the generator.
3. On 4-cylinder models, loosen the alternator adjusting and axle bolts, then remove the drive belt. Note: On 4-cylinder models, the adjusting bolt runs in a plane parallel to the drive belt and can only be loosened after first releasing the locknut. V6 models are equipped with a belt drive belt with an automatic tensioner, the removal procedure of which is described in Chapter Settings and ongoing maintenance.
4. On V6 models, disconnect the electrical wiring from the K / V fan and remove the assembly of the latter from the engine compartment (see chapter Cooling, heating systems).
5. On 4-cylinder models, turn out the adjusting and axial bolts and remove the generator from the engine. On V6 models, simply remove the upper and lower bracket mounting bolts and remove the alternator from the engine compartment. carefully bypassing the wiring harnesses and hoses.
6. If it is necessary to replace the generator, take the block removed from the car with you to the store as a sample - the replacement generator must match the technical characteristics of the failed generator. Compare the terminals - they must have the same numbering, size and location. Finally, compare the identification marking, usually stamped on the unit case, or printed on a label tied to it - the identification numbers of the old and replacement generators must match.
7. Typically, replacement generators are shipped without a drive pulley, which must then be replaced from the old unit.
Installation
8. Installation is carried out in the reverse order.
9. Finally, adjust the tension of the drive belt (see chapter Settings and ongoing maintenance).
10. To check the correct functioning of the generator, measure the charge voltage generated by it (see Section Checking the state of the charge system).
