2. Install the 3/4 shift synchro hub, lip seal, 5th synchro hub and ball bearing onto the input shaft. Make sure there is no ball bearing on the input shaft on the clutch side. Install the entire assembly into the gearbox.
3. Measure the distance between the end of the gearbox and the top of the 1st gear of the input shaft. Take measurements in three places, calculate the average and write down the result.
4. Install the bearing on the input shaft from the side of the clutch housing (without spring washer) and, temporarily, install the clutch housing on the transmission housing. Measure the distance between the end of the clutch housing and the bearing inner race. Take measurements in three places, calculate the average and write down the result.
5. For a 1988 transmission, use the following formulas to select the correct gaskets:
- Item 3 + Item 4 - 1.01 = minimum shim thickness.
- Item 3 + Item 4 - 0.94 = maximum gasket thickness.
Select a shim, or combination of shims, that falls between the maximum and minimum thicknesses calculated from the formulas.
Do not use a set of more than 2 thrust washers.
6. For a 1989 transmission, use the following formula to select the correct gaskets:
- Item 3 + Item 4 - 0.93 - gasket thickness.
Choose a pad equal to (or the nearest smaller) thickness calculated by the formula.
7. For gearbox models 1990-91. use the following formula to select suitable gaskets:
- Item 3 + Item 4 - 1.03 = gasket thickness.
Choose a pad equal to (or the nearest smaller) thickness calculated by the formula.
