Checking Input Shaft Clearances — 1990-91 Accord, 1988-91 Prelude (Honda Accord 3)

Before disassembling the primary shaft, the following measurements should be taken. If any dimensions are outside the tolerance limits, the primary shaft should be disassembled and the non-compliant parts should be replaced.

If all dimensions comply with tolerances, then the primary shaft should be disassembled only in the event of mechanical damage to any of its parts.

1. Pull down the bearing ring with the clutch and measure the gap between the 2nd and 3rd gears. The tolerance is 0.06-0.3 mm. If the tolerance is not met, then disassemble the primary shaft and inspect the 3rd gear.



2. Measure the clearance between the 4th gear pinion and the sealing cuff. The tolerance is 0.06-0.3 mm. If the tolerance is not met, the primary shaft should be disassembled and the 4th gear pinion and sealing cuff should be inspected.

3. Measure the clearance between the 5th gear pinion and the seal. The tolerance is 0.06-0.3 mm. If the tolerance is not met, the primary shaft should be disassembled and the 5th gear pinion and seal should be inspected.
