Before disassembly
Cleanliness is essential when repairing this manual transmission. Before opening the assembly, the outside of the entire gearbox assembly must be completely cleaned.
It is preferable to use a high-pressure water jet for this, for example in automatic car washes. Dirt that gets inside the box will adversely affect the results of the overhaul. During inspection and assembly, each part must be thoroughly washed with a cleaning agent and dried with compressed air. Do not wipe the parts with rags or rags to dry.
Do not use wheel bearing grease that has been used for a long time in the past. Lubricate the seals with clean gear oil and use the same for the thrust washers. This will make it easier to assemble the seals, as there will be no harmful traces, as in the case of grease. Do not use cleaners on synthetic rubber pads (neoprene) and thrust washers if they are to be reused.
Before installing bolts into aluminum parts, always lubricate the threads with clean gear oil. Anti-jamming compounds can also be used to avoid biting and tearing of aluminum by bolts. Always use a torque wrench to avoid thread stripping.
The inner retaining rings must be expanded and the outer ferrules compressed only with a special tool.
