Before disassembling
When repairing this manual transmission, it is important to maintain cleanliness. Before opening the unit, it is necessary to completely clean the outside of the entire transmission unit.
It is preferable to use a high-pressure water jet for this, for example at automatic car washes. Dirt that gets inside the box will negatively affect the results of the overhaul. During inspection and assembly, each part must be thoroughly washed with a cleaning agent and dried with a jet of compressed air. Do not wipe the parts with rags or rags to dry them.
Do not use heavy-duty wheel bearing grease that has been used for a long time in the past. Lubricate the seals with clean gear oil and use the same for the thrust washers. This will make the seals easier to assemble because there will be no harmful residues, as with heavy grease. Do not use cleaning agents on synthetic rubber (neoprene) gaskets and thrust washers if they are to be reused.
Always wet the threads with clean transmission oil before installing bolts into aluminum parts. Anti-seize compounds can also be used to prevent bolts from seizing or stripping the aluminum. Always use a torque wrench to avoid stripping the threads.
Internal snap rings should be expanded and external compression rings should be compressed only with a special tool.
