WARNING: The use of special tools or their equivalent will be required. To disassemble the hub and bearing, you need a hydraulic press and punches of the desired diameter, as well as support legs.
1. Remove the spindle nut pin from the spindle and loosen the nut. Do not tighten or loosen the spindle nut until the vehicle is on all 4 wheels. The required tightening torque is large enough to cause the vehicle to fall off the bed even when properly secured.
2. Raise and secure the vehicle.
3. Remove wheel and spindle nut.
4. To remove bolts of fastening of a support and a support. Secure the caliper outside the work area with a wire. Do not leave the caliper hanging on the brake hose.
5. Remove the 6mm brake disc mounting screws. Screw two 8x1.25x12mm bolts into the disc to push it out of the hub.
Tighten each bolt only 2 turns at a time to avoid misalignment and sticking of the disc.
6. Remove the cotter pin from the tie rod castle nut and remove the nut. Separate the tie rod ball joint using a ball joint remover, then remove the tie rod from the knuckle.
7. Remove the cotter pin and loosen the lower arm ball nut by half the thread length. The nut will hold the lever while the connection loosens.
8. Separate the ball joint and the lower arm using a puller, grasping the lower arm with the pawls.
Avoid damaging the ball joint boot. If necessary, apply a penetrating lubricant to loosen the ball joint.
9. If there is, remove the shield of the upper ball joint.
10. Remove cotter pin and top ball joint nut.
11. Separate the upper ball joint and knuckle.
12. Remove the fist and hub, pulling them off the axle shaft.
13. Remove the mudguard screws from the knuckle.
14. Install the fist/hub assembly into the hydraulic press. Press the hub out of the knuckle using a drift of the correct diameter while supporting the knuckle.
After removal, the bearing must be replaced with a new one.
15. Remove the mudguard and circlip from the knuckle.
16. Press the wheel bearing out of the knuckle while supporting the knuckle.
17. Remove the outer bearing inner race from the hub using a bearing puller.
For installation:
18. Thoroughly clean the fist and hub.
19. Press the new wheel bearing into the knuckle using a drift and support the knuckle.
20. Install retaining ring.
21. Install the splash shield. Do not overtighten the screws.
22. Press the knuckle onto the hub using a suitable fixture.
23. Install a ring on the fist.
24. Install the fist/hub assembly to the vehicle. Tighten the upper ball joint nut and the connecting rod end nut to 44 Nm. Install new cotter pins. Tighten the lower ball joint nut to 55 Nm and install a new cotter pin.
25. Having lowered the car to the ground on all 4 wheels, tighten the spindle nut to 185 Nm, except for 199091 Prelude, which have a tightening torque of 250 Nm.
