Upper control arm — removal and installation (Honda Accord 3)

1990-91 Accord



1. Raise and securely support the vehicle.

2. Remove the front wheels. Support the lower control arm assembly with a jack.

3. Remove the self-locking nuts, upper control arm bolts and upper anchor bolts. Separate the upper ball joint using a ball joint remover.

4. Place the upper control arm assembly into the mount and remove the through bolts holding the upper control arm anchor bolts.

To install:



5. Place the new upper control arm bushing onto the upper control arm anchor bolts. Position the bushing so that the front faces are flush with the anchor bolt.

6. Install the upper control arm assembly and install the upper control arm bolts, then tighten the self-locking nuts to 30 Nm. Make sure to align the upper control arm anchor bolt with the mark on the upper control arm.

7. Install the upper arm, tightening the flange nuts to 65 Nm.

8. Attach the upper ball joint.

9. Install the wheel and lower the vehicle.

Prelude and 1986-89 Accord



1. Raise and securely support the vehicle.

2. Remove the front wheels. Support the lower control arm assembly with a jack.

3. Remove the self-locking nuts, upper control arm bolts and upper anchor bolts. Separate the upper ball joint using a ball joint remover.

4. Place the upper control arm assembly in a vice; remove the self-locking nut, upper arm bolt, upper arm anchor bolts and housing seals.

5. Remove the upper control arm bearing. Press out the upper control arm bushing using a drift.



6. Replace the upper control arm bushings, bushing seals and upper control arm bearing with new ones. Make sure to coat the edges and insides of the upper control arm bushings and the upper control arm bushing seal tabs with grease.

7. After completing Step 6, apply sealant to the threads and outside of the upper control arm bolt heads and self-locking nut. Install the upper control arm bolt and tighten the self-locking nut to 55 Nm.

8. Install the upper control arm, tightening the flange bolts on the Accord to 73 Nm, and on the Prelude to 83 Nm.

9. Attach the upper ball joint.

10. Install the wheel and lower the vehicle.
