1. Rotate the timing belt drive pulley until the #1 cylinder piston is at top dead center. Align the TDC mark on the timing belt drive pulley with the arrow on the oil pump.
2. Turn the camshaft pulley so that the No. 1 cylinder piston is at TDC. Align the TDC marks on the camshaft pulley with the top surface of the cylinder head.
3. Fit the timing belt firmly in the sequence shown. 1 - Timing belt pulley (crankshaft). 2 - Idler pulley. 3 - Water pump pulley. 4 - Camshaft pulley.
Note: Make sure the timing belt drive pulley and camshaft pulley are at TDC.
4. Loosen then retighten the adjusting bolt and tension the timing belt.
5. Install the top and bottom covers.
Note: Clean the top and bottom covers before installation.
6. Install the crankshaft pulley, then tighten the pulley bolt (see above).
7. Turn the crankshaft five or six turns counterclockwise so that the timing belt sits on the pulleys.
8. Adjust timing belt tension (see above).
9. Make sure that the crankshaft and camshaft pulleys are at TDC.
10. If the camshaft and crankshaft pulleys are not at TDC, remove the timing belt and adjust their position following the procedure above, then put the timing belt back on.
11.After installation, adjust the tension of each belt.
