Note. Powertrain suspension mounts rarely need attention, but damaged pads should be replaced without delay to avoid increased stress and premature wear on transmission line components.
Examination
1. To check, it is necessary to slightly raise the engine, unloading the supports.
2. Jack up the car and put it on stands. Place a jack under the engine sump (in order to distribute the load, lay a wooden block between the head of the jack and the pallet). Raise the jack by slightly raising the unit and unloading the supports.
Attention! Never carry out any work under the vehicle, which is held in a raised position with just a jack!
3. Check the support pads for cracks, signs of rubber hardening, and delamination from the metal base. Sometimes pillows start to break right in the middle.
4. Estimate the amount of play between the support plates and the power unit / vehicle frame (use a pry bar or a large screwdriver as a lever). If play is detected, lower the unit and tighten the support fasteners.
5. Pillows must be treated with a special protective compound to avoid rubber destruction.
Replacement
Disconnect the negative cable from the battery.
Attention! If the stereo system installed in the car is equipped with a security code, before disconnecting the battery, make sure that you have the correct combination to activate the audio system! Apply the parking brake, jack up the front of the vehicle and place it on jack stands. Support the engine (see paragraph 2 above).
Right support (passenger side)
1. Through this support, the transmission end of the power unit is hung out. The support pad is attached to the chassis of the vehicle and to a bracket attached to the top of the transmission housing. After completing the procedures listed above, support the transmission with a jack, completely unloading the right support of the power unit.
2. Turn out a through bolt, then give bolts of fastening of a support to the car chassis and remove a rubber pillow.
3. Installation is carried out in the reverse order.
Note. The final tightening of the support fasteners with the required force should be carried out only after lowering the power unit to its normal position. Proceed to perform the procedures listed below in paragraph 4.
Front support
1. Powertrain front mount is located between engine block and radiator
2. Follow the procedures described in paragraph 1 of the section Right foot (passenger side), then proceed in a manner similar to that described for the right foot (see ibid paragraphs 2 and 3).
3. Installation is carried out in the reverse order.
Note. The final tightening of the support fasteners with the required force should be carried out only after lowering the power unit to its normal position. Proceed to perform the procedures listed below in paragraph 4.
Rear support
1. If the inlet pipeline is not dismantled, access to the support is very difficult and opens only from under the car. Loosen the through bolt and relieve the support by jacking up the engine.
2. Turn out bolts of fastening of a support to the chassis, take a through bolt, then raise the engine and release a support from under it.
3. Installation is carried out in the reverse order.
Note. the final tightening of the support fasteners with the required force should be carried out only after lowering the power unit to its normal position. Proceed to perform the procedures listed below in paragraph 4.
Left support (from the driver's side)
1. The left powertrain mount is attached to the engine near the timing belt.
2. Supporting the engine, give fasteners (see illustration) and remove the upper support bracket, then unscrew the through bolt and remove the support pad from the bracket.
3. Installation is carried out in the reverse order.
Note. The final tightening of the support fasteners with the required force should be carried out only after lowering the power unit to its normal position. Proceed to the procedures listed below in paragraph 4. The final stage of tightening the fasteners of all supports.
4. In order to maximize the service life of rubber-metal bearings and reduce the level of noise and vibration, the final tightening of the fasteners of the bearings with the required force must be carried out after lowering the power unit to its normal position (the vehicle must be parked on a level surface).
Note. For lubricating the threaded part of fasteners (bolts and nuts) use non-hardening sealant. Make sure that the rubber bushings are not twisted or displaced from their seats. If more than one support was replaced, as well as when installing the power unit, the support fasteners must be tightened in the following order:
- a) Rear support - first the bolts of the bracket to the block, then the through bolt and, finally, the bolts of the support to the chassis;
- b) fasteners (bolt/nuts).
