Warning! The car models covered in this manual are equipped with an additional security system (SRS). Before doing any work near the airbag unit, steering column or instrument panel, turn off the SRS to avoid injury if it is accidentally deployed (see Section Airbags - general information). SRS circuit wiring is easily identified by the yellow color of the insulation.
Combined steering column switch for lighting control
Examination
1. The combination stalk switch is located on the left side of the steering column and controls the operation of the turn signal/hazard warning lights, headlights, dimmer and parking lights.
2. Remove the switch.
3. Using an ohmmeter or a probe lamp equipped with an individual power source, check the correct distribution of conductivity between the switch terminals in its various positions. In case of detection of violations, replace the switch.
Replacement
1. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery and wait at least three minutes before removing the trim.
Attention! If the stereo system installed in the car is equipped with a security code, before disconnecting the battery, make sure that you have the correct combination to activate the audio system!
2. Remove knee brace and steering column covers (see chapter Body).
3. Turn out fixing screws, disunite sockets of electroconducting and remove assembly of the switch from a steering column.
4. Installation is carried out in the reverse order.
Steering column switch for operating the windshield wipers/washers
Examination
1. The switch is located under the steering wheel on the right side of the steering column.
Speed control operation control switch (tempostat)
Examination
1. On the models in question, the tempostat SET/RESUME switch is mounted in the steering column, while the main system switch (ON/OFF) located on the instrument panel, to the left of the steering wheel. A description of the procedures for checking and replacing the main switch is given in Section Check of serviceability of functioning and replacement of switches of the panel of devices.
2. Remove the SET/RESUME switch from the steering column.
3. Using an ohmmeter or a probe lamp equipped with an individual power source, check for continuity between the switch terminals in each of its positions (see accompanying illustration). Replace assembly if necessary. If the test confirms that the switch is working, but its functioning is impaired, check the condition of the electrical wiring connecting the assembly to the control unit located under the instrument panel.
Replacement
1. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery and wait at least three minutes before proceeding with the procedure.
Attention! If the stereo system installed in the car is equipped with a security code, before disconnecting the battery, make sure that you have the correct combination to activate the audio system!
2. Remove the airbag module from the steering wheel (see chapter Suspension and steering).
3. Turn out fixing screws, disconnect electric sockets and remove the switch from a steering wheel.
4. Installation is carried out in the reverse order.
