The oil pressure sensor is located above or near the base of the oil filter. On 1984-89 ACCORD and 1984-87 PRELUDE vehicles, the sensor is screwed into the base of the oil filter. On 1990-91 ACCORD and 1988-91 PRELUDE vehicles, the sensor, screwed into the wall of the engine compartment just behind its head, is located above the filter.
The oil pressure switch initiates usually a very low oil level. If the warning lamp comes on while the vehicle is moving, turn off the engine IMMEDIATELY! DO NOT assume a simple drop in oil level, such a sharp drop in pressure is usually associated with mechanical damage to the engine.
To remove the sensor, make sure the ignition is off, then disconnect the wire from the sensor. Disconnect the transducer with a suitable wrench, as the threads are sealed and the transducer is difficult to turn. Be careful not to damage the threads and the seal.
When mounting the sensor, coat the threads with a non-hardening sealant or compound. Install the sensor, tightening it to 18 Nm. Connect wire to sensor or harness. Double check the oil level with a dipstick to prevent leakage during repairs.
If it becomes necessary to constantly monitor the oil pressure in the engine, then a pressure gauge should be connected instead of the removed sensor.
