- Relieve fuel pressure before removing fuel hose (see ch. Engine power system).
- Take fire safety measures.
- Do not open the radiator cap on a hot engine. the coolant is under pressure and may splash out. After the coolant has cooled down, cover the cap with a cloth and slowly open it.
- To prevent damage to the paintwork, cover the surfaces with a film.
- To avoid thermal distortion, remove the cylinder head on a cold engine (below 38°С).
- The cylinder head gasket has metal components, so do not bend the gasket.
- Try not to damage the contact surface under the block and cylinder head gasket.
- During disassembly, replace all O-rings and gaskets with new ones.
1. Disconnect the cables from the battery terminals.
Disconnect the cable from the negative terminal first.
- Before connecting the cables, clean the contact surfaces of the terminals with sandpaper and apply lubricant to them.
2. Drain the coolant (see below).
Be careful, the coolant is very hot.
3. Remove the air intake.
4. Turn off fixing and lock bolts, remove a belt of the pump and the pump of a steering.
- Do not disconnect pump hoses.
5. Disconnect the terminal and 4-pin alternator connector.
6. Turn off a fixing bolt, locknut and an adjusting bolt, remove a generator belt and the generator.
7. Remove generator bracket (see below).
8. Relieve fuel pressure (see ch. Engine power system).
9. Disconnect the carbon filter, fuel supply and return hoses, remove the steering pump hose clamps.
10. Disconnect the throttle cable.
Attention:
- Do not bend the cable during removal and installation.
- If cable is bent, replace.
- Mark the position of the adjusting nut.
- Adjust after installation (see ch. Engine management system).
11. Disconnect vacuum hoses and main vacuum hose.
12. Disconnect the positive crankcase ventilation hose and water bypass hose.
13. Disconnect all connectors e / wiring of the engine, remove all clamps and racks around the cylinder head, throttle chamber and intake manifold:
- 4 fuel injector connectors
- Intake air temperature sensor connector
- Intake air pressure sensor connector
- Coolant Temperature Sensor Connector
- Coolant temperature gauge sensor connector
- Throttle sensor connector
- Swirl control valve connector
- VTEC e/valve connector
- Ignition distributor connector
- TDC/crankshaft sensor connector
- Oxygen sensor connector
- EGR valve connector
14. Remove the distributor of ignition.
15. Remove the stopper, disconnect the cable «masses» and remove the top bracket.
- Jack up the engine oil pan with a block of wood.
16. Disconnect the upper and lower hoses and the heater hose.
17. Disconnect the water bypass hose and remove the thermostat housing.
18. Remove the valve cover.
19. Remove timing belts and balancing shafts (see above).
20. Remove the e / wiring rack and unscrew the bolt connecting the rack to the intake manifold.
21. Remove the exhaust manifold strut and unscrew the self-locking nut.
22. Remove the cylinder head.
Attention. Do not loosen the cylinder head bolts in one step, do it in several steps in the order shown in the figure.
Cylinder head bolt loosening sequence:
Checking cylinder head bolts
1. Measure the bolt diameter at the two locations shown in the figure.
Take measurements on all cylinder head bolts.
- Limit diameter: 11.3 mm
2. If the diameter is less than the limit, replace the bolt.
