Replacing the TDC/Crankshaft Sensor (Honda Avancier 1)

1. Disconnect the cables from the battery terminals.

Caution: Disconnect the cable from the negative terminal first.

  • Before connecting the cables, clean the contact surfaces of the terminals with sandpaper and apply grease to them.

2. Remove the mudguard.

3. Loosen the mounting and locking bolts and remove the power steering pump belt (see above).

4. Disconnect the generator terminal and connector and remove the electrical wiring from the valve cover (see above).

5. Remove the oil dipstick guide tube (see above).

6. Remove the generator (see chapter Electrical equipment) and the generator bracket (see above).

7. Remove the valve cover. For installation of the valve cover, see above.

8. Unscrew the crankshaft pulley bolt and remove the pulley (see above).

9. Remove the rubber ring from the adjusting nut and remove the upper and lower covers (see above).
  • Do not use the top and bottom covers to store small parts during disassembly. Be sure to wipe the covers with a cloth before installing.
  • Be careful not to damage the rubber seals on the bottom cover when removing.

10. Using a 6x1.0 mm bolt, secure the timing belt adjusting lever.

11. Loosen the adjusting nut by 2/3-1 turn, press the balance shaft belt tensioner in the direction of the arrow and tighten the adjusting nut.

12. Remove the balance shaft belt and balance shaft drive pulley.



13. Disconnect the TDC/crankshaft sensor connector.

14. Installation of the TDC/crankshaft sensor is performed in the reverse order of removal.
