Attention. Before removing the timing belt, check the water pump (see below).
1. Disconnect the cables from the battery terminals.
Attention:
- Disconnect the negative terminal first.
- Before connecting cables, clean the contact surfaces of the terminals with sandpaper and apply grease.
2. Remove the mudguard.
3. Loosen the mounting and locking bolts, remove the steering pump belt.
4. Disconnect the terminal and 4-pin alternator connector.
5. Remove the guide, oil dipstick tube.
6. Remove generator (see ch. electrical equipment) and alternator bracket (see below).
7. Remove the stopper, disconnect the cable «masses» and remove the top bracket (see below).
- Support the engine oil pan with a jack with a block of wood.
8. Remove the valve cover.
- See above for valve cover installation.
9. Remove the top cover.
- Do not use the top cover to store small parts. Remove dirt with a cloth before installing the cover.
10. Unscrew the pulley bolt and remove the crankshaft pulley (see above).
11. Remove the bottom cover.
- Do not use the bottom cover to store small parts. When installing the cover, remove dirt with a cloth.
- Be careful not to damage the rubber seals during removal.
12. Loosen the adjusting nut 2/3-1 turn, push each tensioner in the direction of the arrows and tighten the adjusting nut. Remove the timing belt and balance shaft belt.
If only the balance shaft belt is removed, proceed as follows:
- Fix the timing belt adjuster lever with a 6 x 1.0 mm bolt.
- Loosen the adjusting nut 2/3-1 turn, push the balance shaft tensioner in the direction of the arrow and tighten the adjusting nut. Remove the balance shaft belt.
