Warning! Do not smoke when working on the fuel system. Do not produce sparks or open flames in the work area.
If you suspect that the fuel pump is not working, check to see if it is working; when you turn the ignition key to the ON (II) position, you will hear a sound if you put your ear to the filler neck opening after removing the cap. The fuel pump should turn on for two seconds when you first turn the ignition key to the ON (II) position. If the fuel pump does not make any sound, check it as follows:
1. Remove the inspection panel from the floor.
2. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position, then disconnect the 5-pin connector from the fuel pump.
3. Connect a jumper between terminals #4 and #5 of the 7-pin PGM-FI main relay connector.
4. Check that battery voltage is present between terminal No.5 of the fuel pump 5-pin connector and ground when the ignition switch is turned to the ON (II) position.
If there is battery voltage, check the fuel pump ground. If the ground is OK, replace the fuel pump.
If there is no voltage, check the wiring harness.
