1. The easiest fuel pump test is to listen to it. The noise of the running pump should be heard 2 seconds after the ignition key is turned to the position "ON". The noise is easier to hear with the fuel filler cap removed.
2. If the pump does not function, continue checking the wiring. On the Accord and Preiude, remove the carpet in the cargo area.
3. On the Prelude, remove the left access cover in the trunk area.
4. Make sure the ignition is OFF (position "OFF"). Disconnect the connector from the fuel pump.
5. Disconnect the wiring connector from the main relay under the dashboard on the left side.
6. In the relay connector, use an adapter wire to connect the black/yellow wire contact to the yellow/black wire terminal (Prelude) or yellow (Accord).
7. Turn the ignition key to position "ON". Battery voltage should appear at the fuel pump connector. On the Prelude, connect the positive lead of the voltmeter to the yellow/black wire and the negative lead to the black wire. For the Accord, the positive lead of the voltmeter is to the yellow wire and the negative lead to ground.
8. If the battery voltage is normal, the fuel pump needs to be replaced.
9. If there is no voltage, check the main relay and/or wiring.
