Warning! Do not smoke when working on the fuel system. Do not produce sparks or open flames in the work area.
1. Connect the tachometer.
2. Start the engine. Maintain the speed at 3000 rpm without load (in Park or Neutral) until the radiator fan comes on, then let it idle.
3. Check the idle speed (see above).
4. Warm up and calibrate the CO meter according to the manufacturer's instructions.
5. Check the CO concentration at idle speed, turning off the headlights, fan, rear window defroster, cooling fan and air conditioner.
CO content:
| Models with TWC: | 0.1% max. |
| Models without TWC: | 1.0±1.0% max. |
If the CO content is above the permissible limit:
- Non-TWC models: Adjust by turning the IMA adjustment screw.
- Models with TWC: See ECM/PCM Troubleshooting Guide.

If the specified CO concentration cannot be achieved by this procedure, check the engine adjustment.
