If the clearance is greater than the permissible limit, install a new connecting rod.
If the play is still significant, replace the crankshaft (see below).
Move the crankshaft away from the indicator and set the indicator arrow to zero by resting its head against the end of the crankshaft.
Then move the crankshaft towards the indicator; the indicator reading should not exceed the wear limit.
If the end play is excessive, check the thrust washers and thrust surface on the crankshaft. Replace components as necessary.
Crankshaft axial clearance:
- Standard (new): 0.10-0.35 mm
- Revision: 0.45 mm
Note: The thickness of the thrust washer is constant and should not be changed by grinding or shim installation. Thrust washers are installed with the grooved sides facing outward.
