1. Remove the oil pump (see chapter "Lubrication system").

2. Measure the connecting rod end clearance by inserting a feeler gauge between the connecting rod and the crankshaft.
  • Nominal clearance - 0.15 - 0.30 mm
  • Maximum gap - 0.40 mm

Maximum gap - 0.40 mm

If the axial clearance is greater than the maximum, install a new connecting rod and recheck the clearance. If the clearance still exceeds the maximum, replace the crankshaft.

3. Install the dial indicator on the end of the crankshaft. Determine the axial clearance of the crankshaft by moving it back and forth with a screwdriver.
  • Nominal axial clearance - 0.10 - 0.35 mm
  • Maximum axial clearance - 0.45 mm

Maximum axial clearance - 0.45 mm

If the gap is greater than the maximum, replace the thrust half rings; if this does not help, replace the crankshaft.
