2. After installing the front balance shaft and bolting its holder, install the oil pump in place.
3. Install the front balance shaft gear and, locking the rear shaft with a bolt or screwdriver (see Section Removal and checking the condition of the balance shafts (4-cylinder engines)), seat and bolt the driven gear of the rear shaft.

4. Lubricate the thrust surfaces of the drive and driven gears with clean molybdenum grease. Align the groove on the rear flange of the gear with the pointer on the gear housing, then seat the housing on the block, engaging the gears - the gear may rotate slightly clockwise.

5. After the gear housing is installed, check that the mark on the gear is aligned with the pointer on the oil pump cover. If this condition is met, screw in the mounting bolts and tighten them to the required torque.
