Removal

1. Disconnect the wire from the negative battery terminal.

2. Remove the air cleaner cover.

3. Disconnect the intake and hot air hoses from the air cleaner.

4. Disconnect the vacuum lines from the air cleaner and mark their positions for proper reassembly. Disconnect the breather hose from the valve cover.

5. Remove the air cleaner mounting nuts and the air cleaner itself.

6. Disconnect the vacuum lines and electrical connectors from the carburetor and mark their positions for proper reassembly.

7. Disconnect the throttle cable. Disconnect the throttle control cable and/or cruise control cables if the car is equipped with them.

8. Disconnect and plug the fuel lines.

9. Remove the carburetor mounting nuts and the carburetor itself.

On 1988-89 models, the carburetor base, or insulator, contains the Evaporative Fuel Extraction (EFE) system screen. The screen is electrically heated and helps evaporate fuel mist during cold engine starting. The screen must be protected from damage during disassembly.

To install:

10. Install the carburetor on the insulator. Be careful not to allow dirt to get on the EFE screen. Tighten the carburetor mounting nuts to 24 Nm. Connect the fuel lines and secure them with clamps.

12. Connect the throttle control cables and/or cruise control cables if they were removed. Connect and adjust the throttle cable.

13. Install the vacuum lines in their places, especially checking that they are connected correctly.

14. Connect the electrical connectors.

15. Install the air cleaner. Attach the intake and hot air hoses, breather hose(s) and vacuum lines to it.

16. Connect the cable to the negative terminal of the battery. Start the engine and adjust it if necessary.
