1. Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal.
2. After the engine has cooled down, drain the coolant.
3. Disconnect the radiator hose from the thermostat housing outlet.
4. Remove the thermostat housing outlet, and remove the thermostat.
5. Using a putty knife, clean the surfaces to which the gasket has adhered.
If the thermostat is equipped with a pin valve, make sure to install the thermostat with the pin up.
6. Use a new thermostat to install (if it is needed), gasket, o-ring (if used), grease (if needed) and reverse the removal procedure. Always install the thermostat with the spring end towards the engine. Screw the thermostat cover with mounting bolts with a force of 12 Nm. Fill the cooling system.
