Thermostat — removal and installation (Honda Accord 3)

The thermostat housing is located on the cylinder head on all models except the 1990-91 Accord, where it is located on the end of the water pump inlet pipe.



1. Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal.

2. After the engine has cooled, drain the coolant.

3. Disconnect the radiator hose from the thermostat housing outlet.

4. Remove the thermostat housing outlet and remove the thermostat.

5. Using a putty spatula, clean the surfaces where the gasket was in contact.

If your thermostat has a pin valve, make sure you install the thermostat with the pin facing up.

6. For installation, use a new thermostat (if necessary), gasket, O-ring (if used), grease (if necessary) and repeat the removal procedure in reverse order. Always install the thermostat with the spring end facing the engine. Tighten the thermostat cover with the mounting bolts to 12 Nm. Fill the cooling system.
