You will need Honda Special Wrench 07916-SA50001 for Steering Case Lock Nuts or equivalent.
Accord
1. Remove steering gear mudguard, if equipped.
2. Loosen the adjusting locknut of the rack guide.
3. Tighten the adjusting screw until it compresses the spring and sits against the guide, then loosen it. Retighten it to 4 Nm and then loosen it back approximately 25 degrees on a 1986-89 Accord or 35 degrees on a 1990-91 Accord.
4. Hold it in this position while adjusting the locknut to 25 Nm.
5. Check the play and rotate the wheels from lock to lock to make sure the rack moves freely.
Prelude
1. Make sure the rack is well lubricated.
2. Loosen the guide rail adjusting locknut.
3. Tighten the adjusting screw until it compresses the spring and sits against the guide, then loosen it. Retighten it to 2.7 Nm and then loosen it back approximately 20-30 degrees or 15-25 degrees on 1990-91 vehicles. On vehicles with 2-wheel steering, retighten the screw to 3 Nm and tighten the locknut to 25 Nm. On vehicles with 4-wheel steering, unscrew the adjuster back by 30-40 degrees, tighten to 3 Nm and secure with a lock nut.
4. Check the play and rotate the wheels from lock to lock to make sure the rack moves freely.
