Adjusting the power steering pump belt (Honda Accord 3)

1. Apply approximately 10 kg of pressure to the belt midway between the pulleys. The belt sag should be as follows: 1984-89 Accord - 14-17 mm, 1984-87 Prelude - 14-17 mm, 1990-91 Accord - 12.5-16 mm, 1988-91 Prelude - 11-13 mm.

2. If the belt sag is not as indicated, adjust it as follows:

• a. 1990-91 Accord - Loosen the pivot bolt and mounting nut. Turn the adjusting bolt to obtain the correct tension. Tighten the pivot bolt to 45 Nm and the mounting nut to 22 Nm.
• b. 1988-91 Prelude - Loosen the adjuster pulley bolt and turn it to obtain the correct tension. Tighten the pulley bolt to 49 Nm.
• c. All other models - Loosen the pump pivot bolt and adjusting nut or bolt. Move the pump away from the engine until the correct tension is obtained. Tighten the pivot bolt to 39 Nm. Tighten the adjusting nut or bolt to 39 Nm, except for 1988-89 Accord, for which the correct value is 22 Nm.
