The use of Honda special tool 07HAJ-SF1020A for the Center Lock Pin is required. It should always be installed when removing the rear steering case or center shaft. It should also be used when aligning the rear wheels.
Removal
1. Raise and securely support the rear of the vehicle.
2. Remove the rear wheels.
3. Remove the cotter pins from the tie rod joints. Loosen the castle nuts halfway. Separate the joint from the steering knuckle using the appropriate tool, then remove the nut and disconnect the tie rod.
4. Near the junction of the central shaft with the rear steering gear housing, move the protective cover of the joint towards the front of the car. Remove the coupling bolt.
5. Remove the cover bolt from the crankcase. With the steering wheel aligned, install the center locking pin. If the steering is centered (and locked), there will be no trace of the red mark around the locking pin shaft. In any other position, it will be visible.
6. Remove the 4 crankcase mounting bolts. Note that the lower bolts are longer than the other two; then they must be installed correctly.
7. Move the rear steering gear housing to the rear of the vehicle, pulling it out above the rear beam.
To install:
8. Place the crankcase back in place.
9. Install the mounting bolts. Tighten them to 40 Nm.
10. Connect the crankcase shaft to the central shaft. Tighten the coupling bolt to 22 Nm and install the protective cover of the joint.
11. Remove the center locking pin. Install the cover bolt and washer.
12. Attach the tie rods to the knuckles. Tighten the castle nuts to 44 Nm and install new cotter pins.
13. Install the rear wheels. Lower the car to the ground.
