All models without inflatable cushions
1. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery.
2. Remove the decorative cover from the steering wheel. Disconnect the necessary electrical connectors underneath it.
3. Make sure the steering wheel is approximately straight ahead. Remove the ignition key from the lock.
4. Using a felt-tip pen or similar, make an alignment mark on the wheel and shaft. Remove the steering wheel lock nut.
5. Remove the steering wheel by rocking it from side to side while pulling it out.
6. Installation - in reverse order. Make sure to tighten the steering wheel nut to 50 Nm.
1991 models with air bags

1. When working on a vehicle equipped with an airbag system, first "disarm" the system. To do this, remove the connector between the airbag and the cable drum and replace it on the airbag side with a shorting jumper (red), which is stored on the mounting plate.
2. Remove the left service cover and remove the cover from the cruise control SET/RESUME switch.
3. Remove the two TORX bolts and take out the airbag assembly.
4. Disconnect the connectors from the horn switch and the cruise control SET/RESUME switches. Remove the airbag connector.
5. Make sure the steering wheel is approximately straight and forward. Remove the ignition key from the lock.
6. Using a felt-tip pen or similar, make an alignment mark on the wheel and shaft. Remove the steering wheel lock nut.
7. Remove the steering wheel by rocking it from side to side while pulling it out.
To install:
8. Center the cable drum:
- a. Rotate the drum clockwise until it stops.
- b. Turn it counterclockwise approximately 2 turns until the yellow tooth of the gear aligns with the mark on the cover and the arrow on the drum points upward.
9. Install the steering wheel. Tighten the nut to 50 Nm.
10. Insert the cruise control SET/RESUME connector and the airbag connector.
11. Connect the horn connector.
12. Install the airbag assembly using new TORX bolts. Tighten them to 10 Nm.
13. Install the cruise control SET/RESUME switch cover and the left service cover.
14. Disconnect the shorting jumper from the airbag harness. Connect the airbag to the cable drum.
15. Place the shorting jumper back in its storage location on the mounting plate and install the plate.
16. Connect the wires to connect the battery; first - positive. Turn on the ignition; check that the security warning lamp is functioning correctly. Make sure that the horn and cruise control buttons are working. Turn the steering wheel counterclockwise; check that the yellow tooth is aligned with the mark.
