Driving a car with a CVT (Honda Fit 1)

To control the variator, a selector is installed on the central console. The selector is connected to the variator by a cable and can be used to set the variator operating mode.

To prevent variator breakdowns due to incorrect range selection (for example, moving from "D" to "R" when moving forward), a lock is installed on the selector, only when pressed "dangerous" switching is possible. The lock allows you to avoid a situation when, through carelessness, one of the unacceptable ranges of movement can be included.

• The selector has six positions: "P", "R", "N", "D", "S" and "L".

When switching, you need to press the lock.

There is no need to press when switching to the lock.

When switching, you need to press the lock and the brake pedal.

Position "R"



Selected when the car is parked for a long time. In this position of the selector, all controls in the variator are switched off, and its output shaft is locked; the vehicle cannot move. It is permissible to move the selector to this position only when the vehicle has come to a complete stop. Moving the selector to the "P" position while moving will result in the variator breaking down.

Position "R"

Reverse. The selector can be moved to this position only when the car is stationary. Moving the selector to the "R" position while moving forward can lead to failure of the variator and other transmission elements.

Position "N"

Corresponds to neutral. All control elements are switched off in the variator, which ensures the absence of a rigid kinematic connection between its driving and driven shafts. The output shaft locking mechanism is switched off, i.e. the car can move freely.

It is not recommended to move the selector to the "N" position while coasting. Never turn off the ignition while driving downhill. This practice is dangerous, as you can lose control of the car.

Position "D"

The main driving mode. It provides forward movement. It is recommended to use it in normal driving conditions.

Position "S"

Recommended for use on winding mountain roads, for example.

Position "L"

This range allows for maximum engine braking. It is recommended for driving on steep descents, ascents and off-road.

When braking with the engine, move the selector to the "L" position. Do not switch the CVT selector at high speeds, this may cause skidding and overturning of the car, or damage to the transmission.



Manual gear ratio switching mode

1. Manual shift mode provides forced change of the variator gear ratio.

2. To switch to manual shift mode, move the variator selector to position "D" and press the switch.



The manual shift mode indicator lights up on the instrument panel. To turn off the mode, press the switch again.

Note: If the CVT selector is in any position other than "D" and the switch is pressed, manual shift mode will not be engaged.

3. Switching is carried out using the switches located on the steering wheel, as shown in the figure. When switching, the corresponding indicator of the engaged range in the manual switching mode lights up on the instrument panel.

• The manual switching mode has seven positions: "1", "2", "3", "4", "5", "6", "7".
