Examination
1. Turn off the ignition (the key must be turned to the OFF position).
2. Remove the distributor cap, runner and protective screen.
3. Disconnect the electrical connectors of the ignition coil primary circuit.
4. Using an ohmmeter, measure the resistance between terminals (A and B) of the primary winding of the coil. Compare the measurement result with the requirements of the Specifications.

5. Then measure the resistance between the positive terminal of the primary winding (A) and the terminal of the secondary winding. Again compare the result with the requirements of the Specifications.
6. Remember that the standard winding resistance values change with temperature. The Specifications provide nominal values typical for a coil temperature of 21°C.
7. If the measurement result is outside the acceptable range in either of the last two tests, replace the ignition coil.
Replacement
1. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery.
Warning! If the car stereo system is equipped with a security code, make sure you have the correct combination to activate the audio system before disconnecting the battery!
2. Remove the distributor cover and protective screen (if equipped) (see Chapter Settings and ongoing maintenance). Disconnect the wires from the coil primary circuit terminals.

3. Remove the two mounting screws and remove the ignition coil from the distributor assembly.
4. Installation is carried out in reverse order.

Examination
1. Turn off the ignition (the key must be turned to the OFF position).
2. Disconnect the high voltage wire from the secondary winding (coil) terminal.
3. Remove the 3-pin connector from the primary terminals of the ignition coil.

4. Using an ohmmeter, measure the resistance between terminals (1 and 3 of the primary winding of the coil. Compare the measurement result with the requirements of the Specifications.
5. Connect an ohmmeter between the middle terminal (2) and the secondary winding terminal. Compare the measurement result with the Specifications.
2. Disconnect the electrical wiring from the ignition coil.

3. Unscrew the mounting bolts and remove the ignition coil.
4. Installation is carried out in reverse order.
