2. Holding the flywheel ring gear with a special tool, loosen the fixing bolts and remove the pressure plate and clutch disc. Loosen the bolts 2 turns at a time in a criss-cross pattern to prevent deformation of the pressure plate.
3. At this step, the flywheel should be inspected for wear, cracks, and scoring of metal. Replace flywheel if necessary. It is not recommended to resurface the flywheel.
4. If it is necessary to replace the release bearing, then the following operations should be done on all models, with the exception of Prelude and Accord 1990-91:
- A. Remove the 8mm bolt.
- b. Remove the fork arm and release bearing assembly.
- With. Separate the clutch fork from the bearing by removing the fork spring through the holes in the bearing.
5. To remove the release bearing on 1990-91 Prelude and Accord models. do the following:
- A. Remove the cover from the clutch housing.
- b. Remove the clutch fork from the clutch housing by compressing the fork set spring.
- With. Remove the release bearing from the fork.
6. Inspect the release bearing for excessive play by turning it by hand. If there is excessive play, the bearing must be replaced. The bearing is filled with grease and should not be washed with cleaning agents.
For installation:
7. If the flywheel has been removed, then the mating surfaces of the crankshaft and flywheel should be cleaned. Align the hole in the flywheel with the crankshaft key and finger-tighten the flywheel bolts. Install ring gear holder and tighten flywheel bolts. Tighten the bolts in a cross pattern to a torque of 105 Nm (on Prelude and Accord models).
8. Install the clutch disc and pressure plate, aligning the dowel pins on the flywheel with their holes in the pressure plate. If the pressure plate is not replaced after disassembly, then the marks made before disassembly should be aligned. Tighten the pressure plate bolts with your fingers.
9. Insert the clutch disc alignment tool into the slotted hole in the clutch disc. Tighten the pressure plate bolts 2 turns at a time in a criss-cross pattern to prevent warping of the pressure plate. The final tightening torque should be 26 Nm.
10. Remove the alignment tool and ring gear holder.
11. If the release bearing was removed, the installation should be done in reverse order. Coat the inside of the bearing with a thin layer of molybdenum disulphide grease before installation.
12. Install the gearbox. Before tightening the gearbox bolts, carefully align the splines of the clutch disc with the gearbox input shaft and the gearbox with the cylinder block.
13. Adjust the clutch pedal free play and connect the wire to the negative battery terminal.
