Main Relay — Test (Honda Accord 3)

1. The simplest test of the main relay is that the engine starts and runs. If so, the main relay is functioning properly.

2. If you need to check the relay, remove it from under the dashboard and disconnect the harness from it.

3. Using jumper wires, connect the "+" (plus) of the battery to relay terminal 4 for Prelude or 6 for Accord. Connect the "-" (minus) of the battery to relay terminal 8.

4. Check the continuity of the circuit between relay terminals 5 and 7. If there is no continuity, replace the relay.

5. Connect the + battery wire to relay terminal 5 and the negative wire to terminal 2. Check the continuity of the electrical circuit between relay terminals 1 and 3. If there is no continuity, replace the relay.

6. Connect the battery + with a wire to relay terminal 3 and the negative pole to relay terminal 8. Check the continuity of the circuit between relay terminals 5 and 7. If there is no continuity, replace the relay. If there is continuity, the relay is not faulty.

7. Reinstall the relay.
