1. Disconnect the cable from the negative pole of the battery.
2. Carefully drain the refrigerant.
3. Disconnect the line and hose from the evaporator joints on the heat shield in the engine compartment. Hold the joints with a second wrench. Cover the joints immediately to prevent dirt from entering.
4. On Prelude 1984-87, remove the O-rings from the thermal barrier. Remove both lower parts of the dashboard.
5. On Prelude 1988-91, remove the glove box.
6. Disconnect the electrical wiring from the fan (1984-87) or from a thermostat. Release the wires from the clamps.
7. On Prelude 1984-87, remove the sealing strip between the fan and evaporator; remove the fan assembly.
8. Ha Prelude 1988-91 remove the fan sealing strip if necessary.
9. Remove the evaporator mounting nuts and bolts. Remove evaporator.
10. On Prelude 1984-87:
- A. Remove the screw and clips from the casing.
- b. Carefully separate the halves of the casing to gain access to the capillary tube. Remove the thermostat tube from the evaporator plates.
- V. Separate the casing halves. Remove the cover.
- d. Remove the expansion valve, if necessary.
11. On Prelude 1988-91:
- A. Remove the evaporator sensor from the evaporator fins.
- b. Remove the bolts and clips connecting the shroud halves.
- V. Carefully separate the casing halves and remove the covers.
- d. Remove expansion valve if necessary.
For installation:
12. Assemble casing components as needed. Install the capillary tube in its original location. Assemble the top and bottom halves of the casing, making sure there are no gaps in the casing.
13. Install the evaporator assembly and tighten the lock nuts. Remember to connect the evaporator drain hose and route it outside the vehicle.
14. Connect thermostat wire or fan wiring.
15. Establish a glove box if it acted in film. On early models, install a fan motor.
16. Install sealing strips.
17. On the Prelude 1984-87, install the lower parts of the dashboard.
18. On the Prelude 1984-87, install the O-rings on the heat shield.
19. Connect the receiver-drier line and suction hose. Tighten the receiver line to 17 Nm, the suction line to 32 Nm.
20. Fill with coolant and bleed air from the system. Start the system and check for leaks.
