1. Block the front wheels securely.
2. Raise and secure the rear of the vehicle.
3. Remove the rear wheel.
4. Remove the clip holding the rear brake hose.
5. Raise the carpet at the rear of the trunk, then remove the top fixing nuts.
6. Remove the bottom mounting bolt at the bottom of the shock absorber.
7. Press the suspension down; remove the stand from the vehicle.
Disassembly
8. Install the spring puller on the spring. Tighten the puller just enough to remove the force of the spring on the top cup.
9. With the spring compressed, remove the center nut. Use the correct size hex wrench to keep the shaft from rotating while loosening the nut.
10. Remove the top mount. Carefully remove the seals, gaskets, bearing, and other components at the top of the rack; save their order for correct subsequent assembly. Remove the compressed spring.
11. If the spring needs to be checked or replaced, slowly release the tension on the puller arms. Remove the tool when the spring is released to normal length.
12. Manually check the shock absorber for smooth operation over its full travel. Check it also for smoothness for short (50-100 mm) blows. Replace the knot if you feel any sign irregularities or jamming.
For installation:
13. Place the stand assembly upright. If a vise is used, place something between their jaws to avoid damage.
14. Install the restrictor, boot and dust cover. Install the compressed spring, making sure that its lower end is in the cup in its place.
15. Install the top cup, bushings, bearing, seals and mount.
16. Install top components and top mount. Install a new axle nut; tighten it to 30 Nm.
17. Lower the rear suspension arm and place the strut in position. Install the mounting bolt. The tab on the strut should align with the groove in the hub retainer.
18. Place the shock absorber in the top mount; tighten the top fixing nuts by hand.
19. Place a jack under the lower strut mount. Raise the jack until the entire weight of the vehicle is on the jack.
20. Tighten the lower fixing bolt to 65 Nm. Tighten the top nuts to 39 Nm.
21. Install the rear wheel and lower the vehicle to the ground.
