Checking the cardan shaft


1. Shift to neutral (manual transmission) or position N (automatic transmission).

2. Raise the vehicle with all four wheels off the ground and securely support it on the safety stands at the designated points.

3. Check the center support bearing for excessive play or rattling. If the center support has excessive play or rattling, replace the driveshaft assembly.

4. Check the universal joint boots for damage or wear. If the boots are damaged or worn, replace the driveshaft assembly.

5. Check the universal joints for excessive play or rattle. If the universal joints have excessive play or rattle, replace the driveshaft assembly.

6. Place the indicator head in the center of the front or rear propeller shaft.

7. Slowly rotate the other driveshaft and check for runout. Repeat the operation on the other driveshaft.

Runout: Not more than: 1.5 mm.

8. If the runout on any of the driveshafts exceeds the specified limit, replace the driveshaft assembly.
