Testing the vehicle speed alarm unit
Note: Check fuse #6 before testing (7.5 A) in the fuse/relay box under the dash.
1. Carefully remove the lower instrument panel cover.
2. Check up presence of conductivity between contact No. 6 and weight. Conductivity should be
1. vehicle speed alarm unit; 2. 6-pin connector; 3. connector «Mother» from the harness side
- If there is no continuity, check:
- Is there an open in the BLACK wire.
- Bad grounding (G401, G402).
- If there is conductivity, go to p.Z.
3. Check for voltage between pin #4 and ground when the ignition key is in the ON position (II). There should be battery voltage.
- If there is no voltage, check for an open in the YELLOW wire.
- If there is battery voltage, go to step 4.
4. Turning the ignition key to the OFF position, reconnect the 6-pin connector to the speed signaling unit and connect a voltmeter to pin #2.
1. vehicle speed alarm unit; 2. connector «Mother» from the harness side
5. Raise the vehicle and secure it on the safety stands at the original points.
6. Turn the ignition key back to the ON position (II) and rotate the front wheel slowly, then check that the voltmeter needle moves alternately from 0 V to approximately 5 V or more, and then from 5 V or more to 0 V.
If there is no voltage, check:
- Vehicle speed sensor (VSS) (see above).
- Is there an open in the BLACK/BLUE wire.
7. If the vehicle speed sensor (VSS) defective, replace the vehicle speed signaling unit.
