Speed control system (tempostat)
Speed control system (tempostat) included as standard on some models, optional on others. The system allows you to automatically maintain the selected cruising speed of the car without affecting the gas pedal. Cruise speed must not exceed 40 km/h. The use of the tempostat becomes especially convenient when driving for a long time on lightly loaded direct suburban highways. For safety reasons, it is not recommended to turn on the cruise control when driving in the city, on winding roads full of turns, on slippery road surfaces, in heavy rain or under other adverse weather conditions. In the cases listed above, the driver must be able to fully control the mode of movement of the car.
Attention! Incorrect use of the tempostat can cause an accident. Activate the cruise control system only when driving on open highways and in favorable weather conditions.
During the operation of the system, automatic movement of the gas pedal may occur, which should not be held by the foot in order to avoid damage to the support and axle mechanisms.
Tempostat operation control
Press the button of the main switch of the tempostat, which is located on the control panel under the steering wheel - the control lamp built into the button of the switch should light up. Accelerate the vehicle to the required cruising speed, which should not be less than 40 km/h.
Press and hold the button "SET/DECEL" on the control panel for the functioning of the tempostat, mounted in the steering wheel assembly. The button must be kept pressed until the tempostat control lamp on the instrument panel turns on ("CRUISE CONTROL"). The operation of the warning lamp indicates that the speed control system has come into operation and has begun to maintain the cruising speed of the vehicle selected by the driver. It should be borne in mind that the actual speed of the vehicle at different times may deviate slightly from the selected value, especially when driving on hilly terrain. When driving speed increases on descents, you should hold the car by depressing the foot brake pedal - this will turn off the tempostat, to re-initiate which you should press the button "SET/DECEL" (Setup/Slow down) and keep it pressed until the control lamp on the instrument panel turns on "CRUISE CONTROL". When climbing, to maintain a given speed mode, the automatic transmission can switch to a lower gear.
Changing the value of the system supported cruising speed of the vehicle can be done in one of three ways described below:
- A) Press and hold the button "RESUME/ ACCEL" (Recovery / Acceleration), - the car should begin to accelerate smoothly. As soon as the speed of the car during its acceleration reaches the required value, release the held button;
- b) A slight acceleration of the car can be made by pressing the button several times in succession "RESUME/ACCEL" (Recovery / Acceleration), each of which will lead to an increase in vehicle speed by 1.6 km/h;
- c) Press the gas pedal and accelerate the car to the desired speed, then press the button "SET/DECEL" (Setup/Slow down).
There are also several ways to slow down the speed of the vehicle:
- a) Press and hold the button "SET/DECEL" (Setup/Slow down), - at the same time, the car should start to slow down smoothly. As soon as the speed of the vehicle during its deceleration reaches the required value, release the held button;
- b) A slight deceleration of the car can be produced by pressing the button several times in succession "SET/DECEL" (Setup/Slow down), each of which will lead to a decrease in vehicle speed by 1.6 km/h;
- c) Slightly depress the foot brake pedal for a short time - the control lamp mounted in the instrument panel should go out "CRUISE CONTROL" (Tempostat). As soon as the vehicle speed drops to the required value, press the button "SET/DECEL" (Setup/Slow down). The system will now maintain the newly selected cruising speed.
Even when the cruise control is on, the driver can still use the accelerator pedal to accelerate the car and overtake. When overtaking is completed, take your foot off the accelerator pedal, the vehicle should automatically return to the previously selected cruising speed.
Continuous depressing of the foot brake pedal leads to deactivation of the tempostat.
Disabling the tempostat
Disabling the tempostat can be done in one of the following three ways:
- A) Briefly depress the foot brake pedal;
- b) Press the button built into the control panel for the functioning of the tempostat on the steering wheel, "CANCEL" (Cancel);
- c) Press the button of the main switch of the tempostat.
By pressing the button "CANCEL" (Cancel) or on the foot brake pedal mounted in the instrument panel warning lamp "CRUISE CONTROL" (Tempostat) should go out, the car will start to slow down. From this point on, the driver can continue driving the vehicle in the normal way by manipulating the gas pedal. The tempostat's memory will store the last selected cruising speed. To return to it, accelerate the car from above 40 km/h, then press and hold the button "RESUME/ACCEL" (Recovery / Acceleration). This button should be held down until the control lamp turns on "CRUISE CONTROL" (Tempostat), after which the car will automatically accelerate to the speed stored in the system memory, which will be maintained until further changes are made.
Pressing the button of the main switch of the tempostat leads to a complete shutdown of the speed control system and zeroing the memory device.
Audio remote control panel
On some models of the cars considered in this Manual, a remote control panel for the operation of the audio system is mounted in the steering wheel assembly. With the help of the buttons included in the panel, the driver can, without taking his hands off the steering wheel, select the desired mode of operation of the radio. Detailed instructions for using the radio are given in Section Operating techniques.
