Cars 1984-89
1. After removing the master cylinder and draining the fluid from the reservoir, remove the outer retaining ring.
2. Remove the washer, secondary cap and secondary piston bushing from the shaft.
3. Remove the retaining bolt. Push the secondary piston assembly in (to relieve tension on the seal) and remove the retaining ring. Be careful not to scratch or damage the inner wall.

4. Remove the secondary and primary pistons as an assembly.
5. Remove the screw from the secondary piston assembly; remove the spring.
6. Clean all parts thoroughly with clean brake fluid. Any other cleaner will damage the parts.
To install:
7. Lubricate the new piston assemblies with clean, fresh brake fluid. Install them into the cylinder bore. Installation is easier if you rotate the pistons while doing this.
8. Place the cylinder on the shaft and press down on the cylinder, install the lock bolt with a new metal gasket.

9. Turn the cylinder over so that the shaft is on top. Press down on the shaft and install the internal retaining ring.
10. Install the secondary caps, bushing and outer snap ring.

11. Install the seal on the master cylinder flange.

1990-91 Accord and Prelude
The manufacturer does not recommend disassembling the master cylinder. If there is an internal fault, the entire unit must be replaced.
