Warning! The models of vehicles covered in this manual are equipped with a supplemental restraint system (SRS). Before performing any work near the air bag unit, steering column or instrument panel, turn off the SRS to avoid injury from accidental deployment (see Chapter On-board electrical equipment). The SRS circuit wiring is easily identified by the yellow color of the insulation.
1. Remove the center console (see Chapter Body).
2. Disconnect the shift cable from the lever assembly (see Section Removal, installation and adjusting the gear shift cable).
3. Unscrew the mounting screws and remove the plastic handle from the lever (there are two screws in total - on each side of the handle).
4. Remove the transmission position indicator panel.
5. Disconnect the transmission position indicator lamp [switch].
6. Disconnect the shift lock solenoid valve.
7. Remove the four screws securing the lever base mounting bracket and remove the assembly.
8. Installation is carried out in reverse order.
