Withdrawal
1. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery.
Attention! If the stereo system installed in the car is equipped with a security code, before disconnecting the battery, make sure that you have the correct combination to activate the audio system!
2. Having previously marked, disconnect the BB wires from the spark plugs (see chapter Settings and ongoing maintenance).
3. Mark and disconnect all hoses and wires that interfere with the removal of the head.
4. Remove the PCV valve and disconnect the breather pipe from the cylinder head cover.
5. Wipe cover thoroughly to prevent debris from entering cylinder head/valve assembly.
6. Give a bolt of fastening to a cover of a head of cylinders of the earth bus (from the timing belt).
7. Turn out bolts of fastening of a cover of a head of cylinders and remove them together with sealing washers.
8. Carefully remove the cover along with the seal. If the gasket is stuck to the head mating surface, tap the cover with a soft-faced hammer to break the sealant layer. Under no circumstances attempt to separate the cover by prying it with a lever inserted between the mating surfaces.
Installation
1. Remove the old gasket from the groove in the cylinder head cover, then carefully clean the mating surfaces of the cylinder head and its cover. After scraping off traces of old sealant and gasket fragments, wipe the surfaces with a rag soaked in acetone.
Note. An intact one-piece seal is in principle recyclable.
2. Insert a new rubber gasket into its groove on the cylinder head cover flange. Install the molded gasket by pushing it into the groove that runs along the perimeter of the cover. Apply some RTV sealant to the corners where the cylinder head cover mating surface meets the front and rear camshaft bearing caps. Wait about five minutes for the sealant to start curing.
Note. Make sure the top coat of sealant is slightly cured (wait about 10 minutes, but no more), only then proceed to install the cover (under conditions of high humidity, the polymerization of the sealant may begin with a slight delay).
3. Install the cover, lay the sealing washers, screw in the fixing bolts and tighten them to the required force.
4. On models with VTEC, before installing the cylinder head cover, check the condition of the spark plug sealing washers.
5. Further installation is carried out in the reverse order of dismantling.
