Note:
- The picture shows a 4WD gearbox; The 2WD transmission is missing the transfer case assembly and components related to the transfer case.
- Thoroughly clean all parts with solvent or carburetor cleaner and dry with compressed air.
- Purge all channels.
- When removing the transmission/flywheel housing, replace the following:
- O-rings
- Starting clutch assembly
- Output shaft drive gear assembly
- flywheel housing gasket
1. Remove the transfer case assembly from the transmission on 4WD models.
2. Remove the ATF feed tube holder assembly.
3. Remove the flywheel housing mounting bolts:
- 18 bolts on the flywheel housing side.
- 3 bolts on the side of the gearbox housing.
4. Remove the flywheel housing.
5. Remove the ATF pump drive sprocket (three bolts), then remove the ATF pump drive chain.
6. Slide the pitot flange towards the cutout, then remove the pitot flange.

7. Remove the snap ring securing the ATF pump drive sprocket hub, then remove the 22 x 28 mm thrust washer, ATF pump drive sprocket hub and thrust washers.
8. Remove the differential assembly.
9. Remove the latch axle, latch spring and parking brake latch.
10. Remove the retaining ring securing the starter clutch, then remove the cracker holder and crackers.
11. Attach the special tool to the starter clutch and securely insert the special tool claws over the parking gear as shown in the illustration.
Warning!
- Do not place the grips of the special tool behind the guide of the starting clutch, otherwise the guide may be damaged.
- Keep dust and other foreign objects away from the driven pulley shaft.
12. Using the special tool, remove the starter clutch and output shaft drive gear assembly, then remove the output shaft.
